Say It With Your Chest

This work is the beginning of the journey to believe in the immaterial by slowing down and being present to open yourself up to the quiet moments when the universe is whispering secrets to you (The Immaterial). With this work I tried to capture moments when I felt myself blistering with The Immaterial and deliver it to you.

The materials I’ve used are recycled, found, gifts, or tokens from significant moments. They all have stories, have lived lives before finding their way to me and their new homes in this piece. The shells on this piece are from shores my sisters and I have visited as we’ve grown up together, as well as some more recent ones I’ve been to with friends. There are beads from friendship bracelets I shared with my childhood best friends, mirrors leftover from a community art show we put on together in the spring of 2024, and there are watch bands from the broken watches my sister and I take apart to make necklaces out of.

I feel it is vital to lead with your heart and live with intentionality in order to live a fulfilling life.

Therefore, the series begins with "SAY IT WITH YOUR CHEST."

In My Chest, There Is Nothing

Upon trying to drop into the well of my chest, I found that "IN MY CHEST, THERE IS NOTHING."

... or is there?

In my friends studio, letting my body paint while my heart and mind engaged in honest and vulnerable conversation. Sharing grief about a friend we lost, these paintings spilled out of me. Making me question my prior statement about what was in my chest.
